Synth pop Christmas-themed originals
On December 20, 2024, our very first Christmas album, Tinsel and Holly, was released.
Tinsel and Holly is a synth pop album of Christmas-themed originals. While we adore the classics, more than a few folks have already re-imagined them. Instead, this album offers 11 original songs, all wrapped up in the joys and, at times, the sorrows that the holidays can bring. From a bright and bouncy pop groove—an admitted guilty pleasure—to haunting and ethereal melodies, the album fully embraces the merry synth-pop fun that we love. Growing up on the sounds of ABBA, Information Society, Thompson Twins, Peter Gabriel, Duran Duran, and Ace of Base, we’ve developed a deep appreciation for a good synth under an infectious pop hook. We’ve made a lot of albums with guitars and mandolins. Time to shake it up. You can dance to this one. Ultimately, Tinsel and Holly is an album about homecomings, a child’s wonder, making memories, and, years later, cherishing those moments. In every way, Tinsel and Holly captures those feelings perfectly.
Reflecting on last December, we recall how doctors told us there was nothing more they could do for Jennifer. Battling chronic Lyme disease and a harrowing encounter with long COVID, she became frighteningly ill. As weeks turned into months, we helplessly watched her decline. It has been a grueling and devastating year—or, give or take, the last six or eight. Yet, this December, we are celebrating her life—truly and quite literally. Her willpower and heart are stronger than anyone could have imagined.
For decades, Jennifer dreamed of writing a Christmas album, and now, it has finally come to life. Jennifer wrote, produced, performed, mixed, and mastered most of this album, bringing an emotional and beautiful gift to the world. Incredibly, she created these songs in ER and hospital rooms. Now, they soar out loud, inspiring profound hope and strength in all of us—to overcome challenges, press on through adversity, and keep singing against all odds.
The illness took so much from her. Over time, it has also taken from all of us in different ways. Specifically, it affected her voice, standing, walking, energy, and even eating. However, it could not take her soul, imagination, talent, or ability to adapt and evolve. Remarkably, she discovered a magnificent way to work around the vocal losses. As a result, we celebrate this as a big win!
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.
